Ladue High School Schedule change: How it will affect students
Starting in the 2015-2016 school year, Ladue High School students and staff will have to adapt to the new schedule change. While many aspects of the schedule are still unclear, the changes that have been made public have caused an uproar in the school community.
One of the biggest changes is the modification of Academic Lab. Currently, Ladue students have AC lab every Blue day 2nd hour. During this time, students have the opportunity to visit teachers and catch up on homework. Students are allowed to go to any classroom at any time in order to complete what they need to get done.
Instead of AC Lab next year, Ladue established a class called "Common Learning Time." During this time, students will have the opportunity to see up to three teacher and they have to stay at their location for an entire block. All students will arrive at the same time. After the block is over, students have the choice to either leave and go elsewhere or travel to another class.
Principal Brad Griffith says that they "really try to adhere to the principle of ensuring that students maintain and have the time that they have and that they need during the day to get work done."

Another big modification is the creation of a third day called "Ram Day." On these days, students will attend all of their classes excluding Common Learning Time. Each class will be 50 minutes long. Some classes will benefit from this frequency, but other classes won't be able to use the time productively. Rigorous courses will struggle to fit all of their information that needs to be taught in a short period of time.
Additionally, the homework burden on students the night before a "Ram day" will be significantly larger. Having seven classes in one day will also force students to use their lockers. It is going to be extremely difficult to carry around supplies for 7 different classes. While Ladue has plenty of lockers for every student, the location of the lockers is inconvenient for certain classes. Students wouldn't have time to go to their locker, change out their supplies, and get to class on time.
